Kinaesthesia:

It is human nature to sense our bodies in space and motion. As a dancer, my work is driven from movement - towards that place of being exposed.

Where our primitive secret feelings live.

That jagged, frenetic, outburst.

An eruption of euphoria, ecstasy.

A secret place because it’s personal.

Revealing.

I translate movements into abstract gestural figurative calligraphy. I do this using cloth, paper, dye, ink, stitch and other mixed media elements.

My work scratches and rips through layers of materials, revealing the underbelly of vulnerability.

My work is also about the aging body, another Universality to the human condition — we struggle against gravity, the effects of time and imperfection.  I prefer to embrace and celebrate these scratches and frayed edges like wrinkles and silver strands of hair.

The dye process itself, furthers the relationship of my work to the body — dye unites with cloth on a cellular level as experiences bleed into us on a cellular level.

I embrace the effects of time and imperfection, celebrating the scratches and frayed edges like wrinkles and silver strands of hair.

Some of my work is two-sided representing the face of what we present and our inner vulnerable side that we keep hidden.

Having lost our home in the recent LA fires is reminiscent of loss of youth and freedom and also gives gratitude for new beginnings.

Some of my work can be taken off the wall, put on a chair or bed or serve as a prayer shawl to wrap around us and bring comfort, reminding us that there is still beauty in our humanity and frailty.
