ARTIST STATEMENT
Movement is where my artistic process begins —
towards that place where we feel exposed.
Where our primitive secret feelings live.
That jagged, frenetic, outburst.
An eruption of euphoria, ecstasy, and pain.
A secret place because it’s personal.
Revealing.
I translate movements into abstract gestural figurative calligraphy. I do this using cloth, paper, dye, ink, stitch, and other mixed media elements. Dye unites with cloth on a cellular level and furthers the relationship of the work to the body.
My work is about the effects of time and imperfection — celebrating the scratches and frayed edges — wrinkles and silver strands of hair.
Having lost our home in the LA fires, I find that underneath my abstract figurative work are archetypes that represent Heroines who are able to transform and transcend the struggles of the human condition as well as the challenges we face every day.
